It’s difficult to say which is the poshest place to live in Leipzig, as it’s a close call between either Zentrum-Süd or Zentrum-West. In any case Zentrum-Süd is a lovely part of Leipzig. In particular, located in the western part of Zentrum-Süd directly beside Johanna and Clara Zetkin parks is the famous Musikviertel (‘Music Quarter’). This grand part of Zentrum-Süd has some of Leipzig’s most impressive Gründerzeit buildings such as the Roßbachpalais on Beethovenstraße.
The Musikviertel contains the University of Leipzig music and theatre school, the University Library and numerous architecturally important buildings laid out in apartments and offices. The imposing Federal Court of Administrative Justice is a notable landmark in the Musikviertel as well. Just as in the Bachviertel part of Zentrum-West, in the Musikviertel well-off Leipzigers live in fabulous renovated Altbau and high-end modern apartments.
Zentrum-Süd also encompasses a stretch of Karl-Liebknecht-Straße with it’s bars, café and restaurant scene. To many peoples mind Killiwilly’s Irish pub is associated with Südvorstadt, but actually it’s in the very southern edge of Zentrum-Süd. Münzgasse is another street with several excellent restaurants and we particularly like Café Waldi for breakfast in their lovely outside terrace. No matter where you live in Zentrum-Süd you will not be far from shopping, eating or almost anything you need night or day, and if you can’t find it, well the Zentrum is just next door. If want to live in one of the best, if not THE best, area of Leipzig then consider Zentrum-Süd.
