Leipzig city centre, or the ‘Zentrum’, is a busy and touristy place with plenty of options for going out. Without a doubt the Drallewatsch area off Marktplatz is the Zentrum’s top day and night entertainment area. It’s hard to beat the sheer concentration of bars, theatres, cafes and restaurants in this hotspot.
Start your night out with a cocktail at Spizz or a pint of Irish ale at the Kildare City Pub. Cougars and cougar hunters should head straight to the Club Barfusz basement.
If you fancy something a little less hectic and off the beaten track a random wander around the Zentrum will uncover many little gems. The Milchbar Pinguin is a throw back to the old GDR times. This café specializes in ice creams and desserts and is a wonderful place to hang out on a sunny day.
You’ll find Champions Sports Bar down a little shopping mall off Brühl street. It’s part of the Leipzig Marriott Hotel complex. This is the place to go for genuine American bar food and watch sports on their numerous big screens, their hot wings are the best in Leipzig (open from 6pm, closed Mondays). For a completely different atmosphere, Darkflower is a properly ‘alternative’ nightclub that stay opens most of the night. Darkflower becomes a sort of Goth HQ during the annual Wave Goth Trefen festival.
For a more saucey time head to the boisterous Metropolis (stripclub, women welcome) and the chilled out Tattoo bar next door. These are popular places with guys out on stag nights. Head down Große Fleischergasse towards the big plaza in front of the Höfe am Brühl shopping centre.
