Leipzig Bookfair (Buchmesse) – March 12 – 15th
The Leipzig Book Fair is Europe’s biggest festival of literature with 200,000 visitors, thousands of events and 350 venues covering many book themes, formats and languages.

This year is the 39th Leipzig Marathon
Wave Gotik Treffen – May 22 – 25th
Enjoy the best of dark music and culture at WGT the world’s largest Goth Festival. Considered so subversive in the days of the German Democratic Republic it was banned.
Scheibenholz Racecourse – May 1, June 7, Aug 23, & Oct 17th
Four race days in 2015: May 1, June 7, August 23 and October 17th

Leipzig Bachfest – June 12 – 21st
The Leipzig Bach Festival is one of Germany’s most important classical music events. Hear the works of Bach performed by internationally acclaimed musicians in St. Thomas’ Church. If you go, don’t miss the St. Thomas’ boys’ choir.
Summer Westbesuch – Saturday July 4th
The second part of this year’s hip street party and fair event in Plagwitz. Big crowds, don’t drive, no parking.
Highfield Festival – August 14 – 16th
On the shore of Störmthaler lake and a superb alternative line up. Highfield is the biggest independent rock festival in Germany. 3 days, 25,000 fans. This year: Marteria, The Offspring, Drop Kick Murphys, Interpol, The Kooks….
Leipziger JazzTage – October 1 – 10th
Leipziger JazzTage presents established names and pioneers of jazz, but also innovative trends and outstanding young musicians. Internationally famous for its eclectic programme of artists and styles.
2015 International Documentary and Animated Film Festival (DOK) – Oct 28 to Nov 1st
DOK is one of Germany’s largest film festivals (and the oldest), featuring films from all over the world.
Leipzig Christmas Market (Leipziger Weihnachtsmarkt) – Nov 28 to Dec 23rd
Ah yes, the Christmas Market (unofficial site). Even the Grinch likes this. Visitors flock to Leipzig to soak up the atmosphere of the Weihnachtsmarkt.
