Many visitors to Leipzig keep to the main nightlife areas of the Zentrum, in particular the alleyways of Fleischergasse, Barfußgässchen and Klostergasse just off Markt Square in the Zentrum. This popular location, also known as bar street, has dozens of bars, cafes, restaurants, clubs and what-not packed into a small area. There are no fixed closing hours so many places stay open serving alcohol all night.
‘Biergarten’ doesn’t just mean beer, it means a cozy outdoor space to relax, drink or eat. Most of the popular ones put out heaters and stay open in the winter (reduced hours).
Scherbers is a chilled-out historical beer garden out in Zentrum-West. It has a good menu and is kid-friendly. In Clara-Zetkin park there’s the Glashaus am Clarapark with a very nice restaurant that has indoor and outdoor seating. The Hafenbar on the Karli is a more youthful and more beer-drinking oriented establishment. Out in Plagwitz the Kasierbad is a chilled place for a drink or have snacks next to the Karl-Heine canal. Gosenschenke in Gohlis is an historical guesthouse and beer garden with a unique range of Gose beer specialities.
The Gosebrauerei at the Bayerischer Bahnhof in Zentrum-Sudost gets our top recommendation as the best beer garden in Leipzig. You can try the their Gose beer, brewed on premises, and order traditional German cuisine (mostly meat oriented). The indoor area is very comfortable, light and airy so good for winter drinking.

Stoned is well famous for its crazy late opening hours. Mixed clientele though not touristy. Relatively small space can get crowded and smokey. Cheap prices and very friendly vibe. Live music most Saturdays
Irish themed pub with dark wood, low ceilings and young-ish fun vibe. Patio area, good beer selection and OK food. Sometimes live music and dancing. Tom from Birmingham has done the Tuesday night quiz (in English) for the last ten years
Now this is cool. May till September La Playa brings a beach bar to Leipzig. The huge sandy space is decked out with palm trees, hammocks, deck chairs, and pool. Cocktails at the bar. If that's not enough kitschy tropical ambience, then there's a beach volleyball tournament as well
'Irish' bar (not really) in the most touristy place in city centre. Outside seating under patio heaters. Great inside areas for colder months with excellent selection of tap beer. Bit pricey but good service and decent food. Solid choice to take a business client
Great neighbourhood bar on trendy Gottschedstraße. No faddish themes or weird music just a good mix of local characters in a nice setting. Friendly bar staff. The place for a few quiet drinks or to start a big night out
The sort of upscale nightclub you'd find in any major city. Not that that's a bad thing. Upstairs cocktail bar and restaurant, downstairs DJ and dancing. Safe bet if you're on a business trip or party weekend in Leipzig
Upstairs comes alive late at night with DJs on Friday and Saturday nights – house, indie, hip hop etc. Late night drinking at Café Waldi attracts a slightly more up-market and studenty crowd than the nearby Flower Power. As a bonus, the popular Münzgasse street is around the corner with lots of restaurants and small one-room bars.
With comfy indoor and outdoor spaces the Gosebrauerei is a great boozer any time of year. Local Gose beer brewed on premises (try it - it's very good). Hearty Saxon food served til late. Safe bet for a good all-round beer garden in Leipzig
Barfly is right in the thick of the Südvorstadt action on the corner of trendy Karl-Liebknecht and Arndt straßes. This is a late night bar for a chilled slightly older crowd and is a popular hang out for staff from other bars and clubs
Absturz (or ‘Crash’) is a small hip club with lots of dancing. Quirky and cosmopolitan vibe. There's a brightly painted courtyard area, perfect for cooling off after dancing. Dub step, drum n bass, house, and indie music. Entry and drinks are well-priced
